PARTICIPANT REVIEWS

In Their Own Words

PT
Pramote Tantisirisom
Bangkok, 54

"I had tried to understand bond yields from books before, but the terminology kept getting in the way. Somchai started from the very beginning and did not assume I knew anything. After the first two sessions I could actually follow the ThaiBMA data on my own."

"The credit analysis course was more demanding than I expected, but in a good way. Wanida walked us through real Thai corporate bond prospectuses and explained what to look at in the financial statements. I came away with a checklist I still use when I look at new issuances."

"I appreciated that the pace allowed me to actually absorb what was being taught. Other courses I have done feel rushed and leave me with notes I never go back to. The reference card from Course 1 is still on my desk."

Nonthaburi, 61

"I completed all three courses over six months. The capstone project in Course 3 was the most useful exercise — putting together a draft portfolio and having Arthit and the other participants ask questions about it forced me to think carefully about every decision I had made."

"My husband and I both enrolled in Course 1 together. We found the small group format helpful — it was easy to ask questions without feeling self-conscious. The instructor was patient with repeat questions. I would have liked a little more time on yield to maturity calculations, but overall it was solid."

"I had been reading about laddering strategies on my own for some time but could not quite see how to apply them to the Thai market specifically. The portfolio course addressed this directly. I came away with a structure I feel comfortable working with."

CASE STUDIES

Participant Journeys

CASE STUDY 1

Starting Point

A 56-year-old retired engineer from Bangkok who understood equities but had never worked with bonds. He wanted to shift part of his savings into fixed income but did not know where to begin.

Through the Courses

He completed all three courses over seven months, attending every live session and submitting the capstone portfolio project at the end of Course 3.

Outcome

He built a laddered portfolio using Thai government bonds and investment-grade corporate bonds, with maturities spread across three, five, and seven years. He manages and reviews it independently.

"The capstone review was the moment it all clicked. Having to explain every decision out loud made me realise what I understood and what I needed to think through more carefully."

CASE STUDY 2

Starting Point

A 48-year-old business owner from Nonthaburi who had purchased government savings bonds but did not fully understand how their yields compared to other options available to her.

Through the Courses

She completed Courses 1 and 2. The credit quality course helped her understand why yields differ between issuers and what those differences reflect about the underlying risk.

Outcome

She now evaluates new Thai corporate bond issuances independently using the credit checklist from Course 2 before deciding whether to enquire further. She plans to enrol in Course 3 later this year.

"I did not know what I was comparing when I first looked at bond yields. After Course 2, I can see the logic behind the differences."

CASE STUDY 3

Starting Point

A 63-year-old couple from Chiang Mai, approaching retirement, who wanted to understand whether fixed income instruments could form a meaningful part of their savings over the next decade.

Through the Courses

Both completed Course 1 together, then proceeded to Course 2 separately at a pace that suited each of them. They found the small group environment made it easy to participate alongside other adults at a similar life stage.

Outcome

They now hold a structured mix of Thai government bonds and savings bonds, and both feel confident reading offering documents and tracking yields through ThaiBMA without needing to rely on intermediaries for explanations.

"The course did not tell us what to do. It gave us the knowledge to understand what we were looking at. That felt more appropriate for our situation."
